Bintulu to host this year’s state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration
BINTULU: The Maulidur Rasul state-level celebration on March 8 and 9 this year will be centred in Bintulu, with theme ‘Wadah Pemangkin Khaira Ummah’.
The publicity committee for the celebration held their first meeting last Thursday at the Bintulu Information Department which was also attended by Sarawak FM controller Hashim Lazem, Bintulu Information Department officer Pauline Sating and the other committee members.
The meeting to outline the programme and activities was chaired by Miri Information Department officer Wahid Muhammad.
Wahid said around 130 contingents with more than 12,000 participants and some 400 invited guests will take part in the celebration.
The celebration will be staggered on two days: On March 8, there will be a thanksgiving and yassin recitation to be held at Masjid Assyakirin starting 5.30pm.
Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Norkiah, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Datuk Amar Sri Dr Laila Taib, state ministers and other VIP guests are expected to perform Maghrib and Isyak prayers together.
The celebration on March 9 will start as early as 6.30am. Discussions are still in progress on the route but it is said that the parade will commence from the Bintulu civic centre and ended also at the civic centre.
“The police will then decide on the routes to be taken by the participants as it involves safety issues,” said Wahid.
There will be two speeches, one from its permanent committee organising chairman Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman who is also the Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) and the other from the chief minister himself.
It is believed that various performances and competitions are being outlined by the main organiser to make the celebration more interesting.
Hashim said on their part, RTM will arrange two exclusive interview in Kuching three days before the actual celebration and the other in Bintulu FM, the date and time to be decided soon,” said Hashim.
The second meeting of the publicity committee is set for Feb 17.
