Dr Rundi: Help develop knowledgeable society
BINTULU: The people are urged to support the activities of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and other government agencies in order to develop a knowledgeable society.
Kemena assemblyman Dr Stephen Rundi said the tradition of learning new things in various fields should be made a culture among the community for only with sufficient knowledge can we compete with others.
He said in order to cultivate a knowledgeable society, new knowledge must be explored, written and translated into Bahasa Malaysia.
“Furthermore, new knowledge should be expanded and developed to ensure it can benefit others,” said Dr Rundi at the ‘Malam Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa’ at Regency Plaza Hotel here on Friday night.
The event was jointly organised by DBP Sarawak and Bintulu Resident’s Office.
“It is crucial to make sure knowledge is continuously available, however the literature must not only be focussed on other people’s languages but the national language as well.
“Although the works may be recognised internationally, we may lack reading materials and educational resources in our national language,” he said.
Thus, he called on all the people to get closer to DBP in its efforts to develop the national language.
The event was held in connection with the state level National Language month.
Among those present were DBP Sarawak director Jiso Rutan and the educational service biro director of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah.
