‘An honour to host first Malaysia Day celebration’
BINTULU: The decision to choose Bintulu as the location for the national level Malaysia Day celebration promotes national integrity and love for Malaysia.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bintulu branch chairman Henry Ling Kuong Meng said it was an honour to have been chosen to host the first national level celebration.
“Sarawak and Sabah played a major role in the formation of Malaysia and it is an honour to Bintulu,” Ling told thesundaypost yesterday.
He said with the promotion of the 1Malaysia concept, the government needed to see to the needs of the people and turn its words into action.
“A slogan gives direction but implementation is the most important stage. We do hope the 1Malaysia concept fulfils its purpose,” he added.
Tuai Rumah of Kampung Mepi Baru, Banyang Amai said the selection of Bintulu for the celebration was a statement of the government’s wish to reach everyone.
“It was not done in a capital city and we the people of Bintulu take pride in this decision,” said Banyang.
As Bintulu and the state in general had channelled most of their resources to the nation, the government lead by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should look into rewarding the state, he commented.
“The 1Malaysia concept translates to an equal opportunity for everyone and I urge the government to heed the voice of our people,” he urged.
Meanwhile, Nur Izzati Mohammad, a local graduate said it was the right time for ministers to go to the ground to meet people from all walks of life.
